Hand-stitched in the traditions of English Saddlery, with Linen thread using what is often referred to as double-handed or saddle-stitching. This traditional Saddlery style method of stitching is much stronger than machine stitching.
No sewing machines are involved in this process, all stitching is done entirely by hand.

LENGTH OF BELT
Choose a belt length from 28”- 40”, including half sizes. English saddlers often work with imperial measurements, but many belt buckles come in metric sizes; this is why we state the length in inches and the width in both imperial and metric sizing.
Measure your belt length using a belt you already wear, by measuring from the point where the leather folds at the buckle, to the centre of the most used hole. DO NOT measure from the end of the buckle as buckles vary in length. See diagram and photos.
This belt comes with 2 holes either side of the most used hole to compensate for waist size fluctuation. The holes will be spaced 1” apart, giving you 5 holes in total.
The length you select will be the length from the fold to the centre hole of your finished belt.
From the centre of the last hole there will be approximately 5″ to the tip of the belt, which is hand-cut using a saddler’s knife.
Refer to the BELT MEASURING DIAGRAM for help, (see photos). If you are still unsure as to how to measure correctly, please contact us via the details provided on our contacts page, or at the end of this description, BEFORE ordering your belt.
For this belt we do not offer a belt size longer than 40”, as we when using a ‘Shoulder’; cutting a strip much longer than that needed for a 40” belt tends to give an end point to the buckle which is not as strong, as the point has to be cut from too close to the belly, meaning it is not as strong.
Customers requiring a longer belt would be better suited to a bridle leather belt. Coming soon! Please enquire by email to: email@example.com
Customers interested in other kinds of modifications or personalisation to a belt e.g. extra holes or belt loops, should also enquire at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This item is cut by hand without the use of a press and instead using a traditional Saddler’s knife and other Saddlery tools.
As this is veg-tanned leather, the edges of this belt are polished to a high shine by hand. We do not coat the raw edges in plastic as is necessary with chrome-tanned leather.
This belt comes hand-stamped on the reverse of the buckle turn with the distinctive egallowayleather logo.
Corners are nicked to prevent unsightly folding and bending and edges are bevelled to remove sharp edges created when cutting the item out by hand. A Saddler works in the same way to ensure equine comfort and therefore the safety of horse and rider. Following this approach creates an item, which is not only comfortable to use but a joy to handle.
MADE IN ENGLAND
This belt is made entirely, in a small workshop in Walthamstow, London, United Kingdom.
We suggest cleaning this belt with a soft lint free cloth and Fiebings 4 Way to maintain its appearance and water resistant nature. Please do not use shoe polish as even clear polish may occasionally darken leather.
If you feel unsure about doing this yourself, or any of the above information please contact us by email/phone/twitter. We will be happy to advise you and answer other queries you may have.
