HAND-STITCHED

 

Hand-stitched in the traditions of English Saddlery, using what is often referred to as double-handed or saddle-stitching. This traditional saddlery style method of stitching has greater integrity than machine stitching. We create these bangles in a similar way to the way a Saddler makes a running loop for a horse’s bridle except that these bangles have only one row of stitching.

 

No sewing machines are involved in this process, all stitching is done entirely by hand.

EDGE CREASE

Edge Creasing is traditionally done in Saddlery to compress the leather and improve the durability of the item.

 

HAND-CUT

 

This item is cut out entirely by hand without the use of a press and instead using a traditional Saddler’s Knife.

 

 

HAND-BURNISHED

 

As this is veg-tanned leather, the edges of this Bangle are polished to a high shine by hand. We do not need to coat the raw edges in plastic as is necessary with Chrome tanned leather.

 

 

CONSTRUCTION DETAIL

 

Corners are nicked to prevent unsightly folding and bending and edges are bevelled to remove sharp edges created when cutting the item out by hand. A Saddler works in the same way to ensure equine comfort and therefore the safety of horse and rider. Following this ethos creates an item, which is not only comfortable to use but a joy to handle.

This Bangle is entirely made, in a small workshop in Walthamstow, London, in the United Kingdom.
